Dhaba is the name given to the popular road side restaurants in India, usually located along highways. Dhabas traditionally dish up local cuisine and also serve as stops for trucks. The word “Dhaba” has been derived from “dabba” meaning a lunch or a Tiffin box. Typically, dhabas serve delicious and spicy Punjabi food that is loved and savored by millions across the globe.

Well, times have changed and though the traditional Dhabas remain as popular, still a Dhaba with an urban twist was always on the cards, so we devised the concept of Rang de Basanti Dhaba. Rang de Basanti Dhaba is a modern take on the traditional concept of dhabas. The name is inspired from the free will and independent spirit that personifies the youth of the country today – an attitude in which nothing is impossible. The phrase “Rang De Basanti” was a unifying cry, symbolic to the Indian Independence movement. Though its essence may not be as relevant this day, it still resonates with the spirit to be free, the spirit to “be”.

The Urban Dhaba with the Desi Tarka reverberates with the notion of a contemporary desi eatery that embraces the entire spirit of India, from its rustic essence to a modern India that is colorful, joyous and full of life. The same essence is found in the food we serve, which reflects our quintessential appeal and brings a perception of ecstasy that is pertinent to the very soul of the Rang De Basanti Dhaba.

Our kitchens are modern and hygienic. The air-conditioning is sharp and effective. As for the rest, it’s still your very own dhaba in a modern garb. There’s original brick flooring much like a dhaba, a life-size tractor which is a quintessential part of every rural home in India and cuisine that promises to makes you relive that rustic experience of a dhaba. At the same time, our kitchens are equipped with the most modern and hygienic features, LED lighting and a bronze-mirrored bar with golden hues which is highly contemporary. The rustic look and feel is maintained with the presence of a jazzy tractor along with the contemporary décor and ambient lighting. Bollywood is an important part of Rang De Basanti Dhaba, as evident with the contemporary Bollywood music doing the rounds at soothing decibels that keeps the conversations flowing.
